Another cheap method of transportation is good old driving. My friend Lacey decided to move back home to go to grad school, so I drove with her and some friends from San Jose to Albuquerque. We pit stopped in Vegas which made the normally 13 hour drive more like 15. When you spend that many hours in the car, it's really not a big deal to add a few more. The drive was great. I forgot how beautiful the sky is in the Southwest. It makes you more aware of what a small little speck each of us humans is in the world. Pretty breathtaking.
My dear old mom turned 60, so we went to Santa Fe, where my charming little bro has established himself in the world of wealth management. We had dinner at a quaint Italian place. I think it was called Andiamo. Good stuff. Made my heart ache for Italy. I personally think eating Italian food in New Mexico should be against the rules, but it was my ma's bday so I didn't voice my objections.
After a quick two days in Albuquerque, I flew off to New York City to visit Mandy, who just finished two years in the New York City Teaching Fellows program, and to meet up with Genia (the law student who also never stops traveling) and flew in from Moscow the day after I got to NYC. New York City is so awesome it gets its own post...
